I HAD been going to Ocean in Clapham Junction for many years. I always booked the same: a wet cut priced at about £32. I’d go in, ask for my hair to be cut, maybe show a picture, chuck in a few layers, no fuss, job done. I have never, until now had a problem. On Friday I went in for the exact same booking as I have always done. I showed the hairdresser a picture that I liked. His response was that this was not a straight forward cut and I require total restyle, which is more expensive. After a bit of a quibble I said, ok forget the picture then and just trim my hair to about mid neck (from just below shoulders). His response was that he cannot do that because that’s a restyle. I could not understand what is the difference between cutting an inch off one’s hair or two. It doesn’t double the work. But apparently he is an “an art director” and he cannot do a mediocre job. I said I did not ask for an art director. I just wanted an affordable wet cut like I have done for years. No one at Ocean has ever said to me before that they had issues with cutting my hair and throwing in a few layers and I always paid the same. Anyway, we argued over it for a few minutes without getting anywhere. Then another lady came over to say what he says is correct and in so many words “if I don’t like it, I can leave”. That was bad because I had taken the time to have this appointment and now I had no appointment. I tried to make sense of it all but they were having none of it. I could not understand why they could not do what they had done for me for years before. They then both left me at the chair and the lady said “leave her, she will have to get out”. My jaw was literally on the floor. I have never been treated like this in my whole life. That was rock bottom of rudeness. You had to be there to appreciate it.
In the end, I managed to go to another local salon, got an appointment straight away, was treated fantastically by the staff and my stylist who did the best haircut I have ever had and I paid the standard price.
