I’ve been a loyal client for years, but after today’s visit, I’m genuinely hesitant to return. I came in for a wash, cut, and blow dry — and I want to start by saying I can’t fault my stylist, Megan. She was kind, professional, and did a lovely job.
During the appointment, I briefly had to bring in my breastfed baby for about 15 minutes to feed and settle her. Before doing so, I asked Megan if she minded, and she kindly said it was fine. I was apologetic about interrupting the appointment and did my best to be quick and discreet. Megan mentioned she couldn’t continue the cut while I held the baby, which I completely understood, and she gave me a few minutes. As soon as my baby was settled, I brought her straight back out to my husband, doing everything I could to avoid any disruption.
However, when I went to pay, I was handed a leaflet about the salon’s family policy and was reminded that children under 8 aren’t allowed during appointments for safety reasons. While I fully understand and respect that policy, I felt embarrassed and singled out. It was upsetting to have the situation underlined like that, especially after I’d tried to handle things as considerately and efficiently as possible.
I explained that this was an exceptional circumstance, my baby is very young, and not something I intend to repeat. It wasn’t a case of bringing my child in for the entire appointment, just briefly tending to an immediate need.
I was really looking forward to my first hair appointment after giving birth, and it’s such a shame that the experience ended on a note that left me feeling embarrassed and awkward. Sadly, despite years of great service, I’m now unsure whether I’ll return.
